Foundations & Grants
Slaight Family Foundaiton supports projects related to health care, social service initiatives, arts and culture. The Foundation is particularly supportive of projects that help at risk or disadvantaged youth. The Slaight Family Foundation is one of UST’s longest supporters and has funded numerous projects from summer camps to education, squash activities and event sponsorships.
Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. The OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities. OTF awarded us with a 3 year grant which funded the construction of our classroom, purchase of new squash equipment and uniforms, and maintenance of our facilities.
Toronto Foundation, established in 1981, pools philanthropic dollars and facilitates charitable donations for maximum community impact. With more than 500 funds and $400 million in assets, through strategic granting, thought leadership, and convening they engage in city building to strengthen the quality of life in Toronto. The Toronto Foundation helped fund our Urban Youth Leaders program and most recently aided UST’s COVID-19 response providing our community with food support, academic assistance and PPE supplies.
United Way Greater Toronto sustains a viral safety net across Peel, Toronto and York region. Their network of 280 community agencies is there during times of stability and crisis, providing hundreds of thousands of people with much-needed support, close to home. Through the Emergency Community Support Fund, United Way Greater Toronto aided UST’s COVID-19 response providing our community with food support, technology supplies and internet costs.
MLSE Foundation provides grants to community level charitable organizations across the GTA. They develop sport partnerships to provide more opportunities and experiences for the youth in the programs. They provided us with a grant that help fund squash equipment, academic materials, and daily bus transportation for our students.
Mazon Canada is a grassroots organization that feeds both Jewish and non-Jewish Canadians in need by supporting food projects across the country - including food banks, school nutrition programs, hot meals at shelters, community gardens and more. Mazon Canada aided UST in our COVID-19 food security response.
Jumpstart Sport Relief Fund, founded in 2005, helps kids overcome financial and accessibility barriers to sport and recreation in an effort to provide inclusive play for kids of all abilities. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic Jumpstart supported UST to build back sport and play through 2021.
Alan Cherry Memorial Fund was established by the family of Alan Cherry who was beloved by his family and friends. Alan was an avid squash player and believed in the work Urban Squash Toronto is doing. His family donated money to support two of our top students with academic supplies, squash equipment, and registration to tournaments.
FoodRescue.ca is the creation of Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization. During the COVID-19 pandemic FoodRescue.ca provided UST families with food support in the form of grocery gift cards.
