Foundations & Grants

 

Slaight Family Foundation supports projects related to health care, social service initiatives, arts and culture. The Foundation is particularly supportive of projects that help at risk or disadvantaged youth.  The Slaight Family Foundation is one of UST’s longest supporters and has funded numerous projects from summer camps to education, squash activities and event sponsorships.

 

New Balance Foundation has invested in research, and clinical, educational and community programs that promote healthy lifestyles, children's fitness and nutrition, and overall community wellness. With their primary focus being the prevention of childhood obesity. New Balance supports UST’s squash training program through coaching and equipment as well as addressing food security.

 

Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. The OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities.  OTF awarded us with a 3 year grant which funded the construction of our classroom, purchase of new squash equipment and uniforms, and maintenance of our facilities.

 

Toronto Foundation, established in 1981, pools philanthropic dollars and facilitates charitable donations for maximum community impact. With more than 500 funds and $400 million in assets, through strategic granting, thought leadership, and convening they engage in city building to strengthen the quality of life in Toronto. The Toronto Foundation helped fund our Urban Youth Leaders program and most recently aided UST’s COVID-19 response providing our community with food support, academic assistance and PPE supplies.

 

MLSE Foundation provides grants to community level charitable organizations across the GTA. They develop sport partnerships to provide more opportunities and experiences for the youth in the programs.  They provided us with a grant that help fund squash equipment, academic materials, and daily bus transportation for our students.

 
 
 

The Eubanks Family Foundation is a Family foundation based in Toronto which commits to partnering with organizations that support the self-actualization of individuals striving for success while being a symbol of excellence in their communities.

 
 
 

Jumpstart Community Development Grant, helps kids overcome financial and accessibility barriers to sport and recreation in an effort to provide inclusive play for kids of all abilities. In 2023 UST has received a Programming Support grant that supports UST in its efforts to provide access to high level squash coaching and remove barriers of transporation to recreational activities.

 

Community Partners

 

The Cambridge Group of Clubs is a fully integrated wellness and hospitality company that manages, operates, owns acquires and redevelops health, fitness, and recreation environments which serve professionals in the business sector in select cities in North America. The Cambridge Group partnered in founding the program, provides operation costs and continually opens their doors to UST students. In addition Cambridge Group President & CEO Clive Caldwell is a founding UST board member and current Chairmen.

 

SEA is the umbrella organization for 25 urban squash and education programs in the U.S and around the world that enroll year-round more than 2,000 elementary, middle, high school and college students. SEA helps to provide the framework and support for Urban Squash programs operations and helped establish Urban Squash Toronto in 2010.

 

Huron College at Western University is a Liberal Arts University where students experience personal attention from faculty and staff, a warm campus community and the pursuit of academic excellence. A momentous moment in UST history came from Huron College, where UST student, Vivek Mody received a full academic scholarship for a BMOS degree commencing in Fall 2020.

 

Connect Asset Management works with clients to secure high yield investments in the pre-construction condominium market. Connect co-founder, Ryan Coyle, has provided UST with funding for our high performance team enabling our students to partake in Squash Ontario tournaments.

 

Oxford Leaning is an educational program and tutoring service that shows children how to effectively learn by providing learning skills for inside and outside the classroom. Our partnership with Oxford gives UST students access to oxford materials, learning concepts and our Academic Director is a trained Oxford Learning tutor.

 

York University is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is Canada's third-largest university. York University has approximately 52,300 students, 7,000 faculty and staff, and 295,000 alumni worldwide. York is UST’s local university and we have formed a partnership with York University educationfor teachers college students to volunteer at our program. These volunteers help our students in the classroom, on the court and act as mentors for young minds.
